Arkansas duck hunters soon found out that the 2018-19 duck season that started with a bang would quickly fizzle into blue skies and no ducks. Mother Nature gave Arkansas plenty of water, but she also provided plenty of warmer temperatures to go with that abundance of water. Warmer temperatures in the Northern states moved few birds south, and hunters enjoyed the monotony of swatting mosquitoes in knee-deep water more than calling at workable ducks. The Echo Boys stayed at it scouted hard and made the best of “The Dog Days.”

The 2017-18 Arkansas Duck Season was both one of the driest and coldest on record. Little water, frigid temperatures, and high-pressure birds made this duck season about as tough as it can get. The Echo Boys made due to having to change their hunting tactics. A lot less flooded green timber with a lot more open water areas such as old oxbows and rivers would be the diet the boys would have to eat all duck season long. The trick to staying successful was entirely reliant on staying the course, no matter the conditions and drink that lemonade chilled on “Dry Ice.”

| 2016-17 was a duck season of high pressure. The Echo Boys experienced it on every level it could relate to a duck hunter. A low water year meant that areas were under pressure, the ducks were under pressure, and all hunters were under pressure. To be successful, a need to change hunting tactics such as calling, decoys, and areas was a day to day ritual. One had to be on their game and definitely able to handle the rigors of hunting an entire 60 day season without giving in. You’ve got to stay on your game when “Under Pressure”.
